DataDUM
Data for more sustainable urban distribution
We drive new urban mobility and logistics services through shared data, interoperability and smart management of urban goods distribution.
What the DataDUM project is
DataDUM is a use case driven by the Mobility Data Space, aimed at improving the management of urban goods distribution (UGD) in complex urban environments.
The project allows the sharing and activation of data relating to mobility, loading and unloading, urban regulations and logistics operations to generate new digital services that boost operational efficiency and reduce their impact on the city.
The challenge: to adapt urban logistics to the new LEZs
Cities need new, more efficient, sustainable and connected distribution models.
-
Restrictions in Low Emission Zones
The roll-out of LEZs necessitates a change in current urban delivery models.
-
Lack of real-time information
Logistics operators do not always have precise information about places, access or congestion.
-
Low interoperability
Urban and logistics systems work in a fragmented way, making coordination difficult.
-
Operational inefficiency
The lack of optimisation leads to wasted time, double parking and higher emissions.
-
Need for new delivery models
Microhubs, cargobikes and proximity logistics call for new digital services.
Project focus
DataDUM deals with the challenges of urban distribution using a model based on interoperability, secure sharing of data and smart management of urban space.
- Secure exchange of data between stakeholders
- Digital services for urban loading and unloading
- Smart management of logistics microhubs
- Real-time operational information
- Optimising operations in LEZs
This approach allows data, logistics and urban mobility to be connected in order to develop new digital services aimed at more efficient, sustainable urban distribution:
-
We cut congestion and operating times.
-
We facilitate new urban distribution models.
-
We improve decision-making through data.
-
We generate a model that can be replicated in other cities.

Results of the DataDUM project
The pilot scheme has allowed solutions to be validated under real conditions, gaining key learnings to improve the design, implementation and scalability of charging infrastructure.
- 48% of drivers state that they park legally during their operations
- 68% of drivers follow routes that vary depending on daily demand
- 77% of delivery vehicles operate with a single driver
- 85% of parking time is less than 30 minutes
