MOBILITY LAB VITORIA-GASTEIZ RECEIVES THE “JUNTA DE ANDALUCÍA AWARD FOR THE BEST INNOVATIVE PROJECT FOR THE FUTURE OF MOBILITY” AT THE EMOBILITY EXPO WORLD CONGRESS

The international recognition highlights the Sandbox and the federated Data Space for sustainable mobility and logistics promoted by the Vitoria-Gasteiz innovation ecosystem.

Málaga, March 11, 2026. Mobility Lab Vitoria-Gasteiz has been awarded the “Junta de Andalucía Award for the Best Innovative Project for the Future of Mobility” as part of the eMobility Innovation Awards, held during the eMobility Expo World Congress 2026 in Málaga.

This international recognition rewards initiatives capable of transforming the future of mobility and accelerating the transition toward more sustainable, safe and efficient transport systems.

The jury recognized the project developed by Mobility Lab Vitoria-Gasteiz, based on an urban Sandbox and a federated data space for sustainable mobility and logistics. This environment allows innovative solutions to be tested, validated and scaled under real urban conditions.

The awards ceremony took place at the iconic Gran Hotel Miramar in Málaga, bringing together representatives from public administrations, technology companies and mobility sector leaders from different countries. The award was received by Iñigo Bilbao, Director of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Araba Mobility Lab Foundation, on behalf of the ecosystem driving this initiative.

Applied innovation to transform urban mobility

The model promoted by Mobility Lab Vitoria-Gasteiz aims to turn the city into a living mobility laboratory, where companies, technology centers, public administrations and startups can test new technologies and services related to intelligent transport, urban logistics and mobility data.

The project combines urban experimentation, data governance and public-private collaboration to foster solutions that help reduce emissions, improve logistics efficiency and move towards more sustainable cities.

According to Iñaki Gurtubai, Deputy for Equality, Basque Language and Governance, “this recognition supports the work that Mobility Lab has carried out during its almost three years of existence to promote innovation in two key sectors of the Álava economy: mobility and logistics. It shows that creating experimentation environments and linking them to data management is essential for innovation in these fields.”

This approach positions Vitoria-Gasteiz as one of the leading European ecosystems for mobility innovation, fostering the creation of pilot projects and attracting talent and investment to the sector.

Recognition at one of Europe’s leading mobility events

The award was presented during the eMobility Innovation Awards ceremony, held within the framework of the eMobility Expo World Congress 2026, one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to sustainable, electrified, autonomous and connected mobility.

Each year, these awards recognize companies, institutions and projects that are driving the development of innovative solutions to build a more efficient, sustainable and people-centered future of mobility.

With this recognition, Mobility Lab Vitoria-Gasteiz strengthens its international positioning as a platform for applied innovation focused on the development and validation of new solutions for urban mobility and sustainable logistics.
